Homework 8: Due Friday 23 February

For many of these problems you'll need access to a program that will make Julia sets for you. Here are some to choose from:

• http://mitpress.mit.edu/books/FLAOH/cbnhtml/java.html. Choose small, medium, or large screen depending on the speed of your connection. Unless you're working off campus, I suggest choosing large.
• http://math.bu.edu/DYSYS/applets/M-set.html. First you'll get a picture of the Mandelbrot set. Click on the Julia set button, and then you'll be able to make Julia set pictures.
• http://hem.passagen.se/mnomn/fractal.html. Julia sets all the way from Sweden.

Lesson 3: The Squaring Rule

1. 3 (10 points)
2. 4-7 Optional, but not that hard and kinda interesting.

Lesson 4: Julia Sets of Quadratic Iterations

1. 3 (25 points) Use one of the java applets given above.
2. 4 (25 points) Use a calculate that can do complex multiplication. If you don't have such a calculator, borrow one, steal one, or see me.
