  • Class 1: Introduction to the course. Introductory discussion of energy, conservation of energy, and power.
  • Lab 1: Measurement and watt meters.
  • Class 2: Read Chapter 1 of SEWTHA. Bring to class a few benchmarks about population and greenhouse gas emissions. Energy vs. power.

Week Two

April 7-11

  • Class 3: Different types of energy. Electric current. Generating electricity.
  • Lab 2: Build your own electric generator.
  • Class 4: The power grid.

Week Three

April 14-18

  • Class 5: Thermal energy.
  • Lab 3: Discussion of project topics
  • Class 6: Thermal energy. Begin finance: time value of money.
